About Takes One to Write One:
Our Mission
Takes One to Write One helps writers create more authentic, research-driven characters through in-depth interviews, educational content, and practical guidance that encourages deeper, more intentional research in their own work.
Why This Exists
Too many writers are taught to rely on assumption, stereotype, or surface-level observation when building characters. Takes One to Write One exists to offer a better way. Through immersive, ethical, and experience-based research methods, the goal is to help writers move beyond guesswork and create characters that feel specific, lived-in, and true to the worlds they inhabit.

Meet the Founder
I created Takes One to Write One because I believe writers deserve better research tools.
Too often, character development is taught through instinct, trope, or surface-level observation. My work has always leaned the other direction: immersive, experience-based, and relentlessly curious. As a method writer, I’m interested in how people actually live, work, think, and move through the world—and how that kind of research can transform a story.
Takes One to Write One brings together the parts of my background that support that mission: storytelling, design, video and audio production, digital strategy, and practical educational resource creation for writers. I built this platform to help writers ask better questions, research more intentionally, and create characters that feel specific, lived-in, and true.
I’m a graduate of Velocity’s Business Incubation Program and hold a degree in video production, combining business insight with media skills to build and run Takes One to Write One.
What We Believe
1. Curiosity with Purpose
We believe good research starts with genuine curiosity, but strong storytelling requires more than fascination. We encourage writers to ask better questions, look beyond the obvious, and pursue insight that deepens character, setting, and narrative truth.
2. Respect for Lived Experience
Real people, professions, and communities are not just reference material. We value research that approaches lived experience with care, humility, and a willingness to listen before interpreting.
3. Nuance Over Assumption
We reject cliché, stereotype, and inherited shorthand in favor of specificity, context, and structural understanding. Writers should not rely on what “sounds right” when better questions can reveal what is actually true.
4. Research as Craft
Research is not separate from writing as it is part of the writing process itself. We treat observation, interviewing, fieldwork, and source evaluation as creative tools that help writers build more believable characters and more convincing worlds.
5. Accessible, Practical Learning
Writers need methods they can use, not just ideas they admire. We are committed to making research-driven character development clear, applicable, and adaptable across genres, experience levels, and creative goals.

Our Vision
Takes One to Write One is building a long-term archive of lived insight, practical tools, and immersive learning experiences that help writers build the habit of deeper, more intentional research—so they can create more authentic, specific, and structurally believable stories.
